Supercar Sunday 4/6

Managed to get to Pierce College a little after 7:00 and it was sparse. No food truck, no toy and model vendor, and no other Healeys. After a rolling perusal of the parking lot, I picked a spot and parked. As I was unpacking my chair, cleaning supplies and car bio sheet I was joined by Jack Gies in his black BJ8. As the lot started to Fill up with classics, Fred Cohen cruised by in his Corvette and headed for the Marque corral to join the other ‘vettes on display.

The food truck did show up, as did the toy vendor, and I was able to get my coffee Fix and a breakfast burrito. Then it was time to check out the other cars and see what was of interest. As I was taking pictures, I was almost run down by a right-hand drive sedan. As it rolled past, I checked the name and model, a Toyota Toyopet Corona. I was intrigued. During my Air Force assignment to Tachikawa AB, Tachikawa City, Japan 1967-1970, I owned a Toyopet Crown sedan, probably late 50’s, that looked nothing like this car. I have seen a Toyopet Crown locally, in the Petersen Museum collection.

Back at the Healeys, Jack and I were surprised by Lon Bender and his brother.

Lon had driven his Nissan NSX and his brother Arthur, from nearby Calabasas, had driven his white ‘75 TR6. After some chit chat, they moved on to look at cars and I decided that 9:15 was a good time to pack up and head for home.
