LA Cars & Coffee Griffith Park 2/23

It was just 7am as I headed toward the LA River and the Victory Blvd entrance into Griffith Park. It was chilly and the sun was hidden behind light clouds. A quick drive past the Autry Museum, the Zoo, golf course and Carousel brought me to the parking lot for the event. Except the lot was filled with SUV’s and family cars, and not the expected classics. A number of running events in the park had brought a tidal wave of cars that filled up the parking lot. I managed to squeeze into a spot next to Jack Gies and looked around for fellow club members. No Healey people but I did see Caliva’s amigos, Frank Nesta driving his chocolate convertible “Vette”, and Sandy Bettleman in his very rare Shelby Series 1.

Found my way to the coffee truck and fortified with a cup of Joe I started to peruse the vehicles on hand. At this point Phil arrived in his Dodge Durango with Clay and Monica Kaytis. He had picked them up at home and after a stop at the Park they were heading for Phil’s shop to retrieve their Healeys, which had been evacuated from north-east Glendale during the January fires. It was good to see Phil up and about, cane in hand, after his knee surgery.

By 9:15 I was ready to head for home. I hope to see more of you next month when there won’t be so many runners cars and more classics to check out.
