Balboa Fun Zone Cars & Coffee 3/9

Jim Bennett | Published on 3/9/2025

This monthly event had the unfortunate problem to be scheduled on the same day as the British Invasion at Dana Point's Festival of Whales. No doubt this conflict contributed greatly to the diminished attendance on Sunday, March 9th.

Unfortunately, this event's next meeting on April 13th, is at the same time as the Queen's English, so it'll be even less attended, as I am planning on going to the bigger and better event.

Our club WAS represented at the Balboa Fun Zone, however sparsely, and that representation was by myself, Jim Bennett, in my 1961 tri-carb 3000 MKII.

In all fairness, I must add that I live close by this event, and I've been faithfully attending it weekly for quite some time...

The cold morning air, enhanced by the early hour (it was the first day of Daylight-Saving Time) quickly gave way to a bright, sunny day. Other non-AH attendees enjoyed robust "truthful" discussions over cigars and, I suspect, a bottle of single malt.

I followed up this event by a quick visit later to the British Invasion at Dana Point, where I was impressed (flabbergasted) at the robust attendance of Austin Healeys. But it's not for me to report on that event.

Due to the ongoing slim attendance at the Balboa Fun Zone, I propose we re-name this event the "perchance meeting" and that when less than two members attend, points earned towards the Bill Barnett Spirit Award be multiplied by a factor of FOUR for the sole attendee(s). Editor’s Note: Not going to happen!
