I left the house before 7am headed for Pierce College to meet up with Phil, Chuck and Phil’s car buddy, Sandy Bettleman. Upon arriving at the parking lot, I found myself in a long line of cars driving in to the show. I spotted the group behind two lines of caution tape as I turned out of line to join them. Once I was parked, two big bags of stuffed animals and plushies were unpacked and placed on my car.
Then I made my way to the food truck for coffee and a breakfast burrito.
Greeted the cook and the cashier and waited for my order. Took the food back to join Phil, Chuck and Sandy who were finishing up their breakfast.
After eating it was time to drop off my contribution to the toy drive and check out the varied and interesting cars on hand. My tour was interrupted by the arrival of Amanda Cole and her hubby, Art Perez. They had come to check out the wide variety of cars. Besides the usual assortment of Porsches, Corvettes, Tri-5 Chevys, and pickups there were Batmobiles, unique builds based on Gire engine chassis, and rare sports cars.
There was a large law enforcement presence, with the LAPD and the LA Sheriffs Department showing off SWAT vehicles, patrol cars, K-9 officers, and a flyover by the LAPD Aviation unit.
By 9:30 Chuck and Phil were pressing on to another show in the South Bay, so we packed the toys in the large trash bags while Sandy arranged for help carrying the bags to the collection point to join the hundreds of bikes, balls, games, and toys of every description. I then fired up my car and slowly made my way out of the parking lot and headed for home wondering on the generosity of the car community.
