I headed south on the 5 Fwy about 7:30 in the morning hoping to arrive in South Tustin no later than 8:30 to get in line for the car show parking. There was only one problem, I was sun-blind the entire drive and my left arm was cramping from holding my hand up to block the sun. As I pulled into the entry line my phone rang, it was Caliva telling me where they, Chuck Lakowski, Bob and Nick Bolling, and Phil were parked.
As I was rolling through the parking lot, I spotted Tony Trentacost’s red over white Healey near the exit for a quick getaway.
After parking across from Bob’s 3000, Chuck’s Jensen Healey, and Phil’s ‘36 Dodge pickup, I headed for the free coffee and doughnuts before joining the guys. It was then that Mike Scroggie rolled in driving his Porsche 356. We now had all branches of the military covered, except for the Coast Guard. Mike – Navy, Phil – Marine Corp, Bob – Army, and me – Air Force.
The day progressed with an opening ceremony, presentation of the Colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the National Anthem, sung by Miss Tustin. There were remarks by the Mayor and Congresswoman Young Kim, and entertainment provided by the Satin Dollz, a song and dance troupe in 40’s and 50’s attire.
From nine am til two pm the show area was full of spectators checking out the wide assortment of makes and models of classic cars and the classic (read old here) men and women who drove them. A wonderful time spent honoring our own service and the
