The 33rd All-British car show was held at the grassy park next to the marina in Channel Islands Harbor. Various groups and solo drivers headed for Oxnard from the South Bay, Westside, Glendale/Pasadena, San Fernando Valley, and Camarillo area. The South Bay contingent drove up PCH to Trancas Canyon for breakfast before continuing to the show. I met up with Steve Gerow and Peter Roses at the Best Breakfast Cafe in Oxnard, where we enjoyed a very good breakfast.
The show runners were very pleased with the turnout this year, about 150 cars on display out of 169 registrations. The weather may have contributed to the missing cars. It was overcast all day and a chilly breeze came up late morning. But that didn’t deter the spectators who came out in droves to look at and appreciate the varied cars on display. In the Austin Healey categories club members made up seven out of nine Sprites and nine out of ten “big” Healeys. In addition, we had two Jensen Healeys, a Triumph TR6, and an MGB take part.
As part of the usual agenda, a Pipe and Drum band performed a number of classic tunes and a young dancer performed Highland Flings and jigs for the crowd. In the early afternoon after the ballot counting was completed, the awards were given out.
The four Austin Healey awards were swept by club members. In the Sprite category First place went to Greg Aden, and second place went to Chris and Gerry Lockwood.
The ‘big” Healey (100’s and 3000’s) awards went to Bill Hoyt, 1st place, and Larry Bryant, 2nd place.
Twenty members brought cars to the show, a very nice turnout. In Bugeyes: Chris and Gerry Lockwood, Greg Aden, Clark Lewis, Monica Lago-Kaytis, Paul van Wig, Dan O’Neill, and Emil Joseph. “Big” Healeys: Phil Caliva, Frank Powell, Clay Kaytis, Bill Hoyt, Ron Fine, Russ Thompson and Joyce Maeda, Lon and Heidi Bender, Tim McNiff, and Larry Bryant. Chuck Lakowski and Peter Hutchings drove their Jensen Healeys, Steve Gerow drove his TR6 with Peter Roses navigating, and Nancy Asahina was in an MGB. Old timers who came to visit included Charlie Hart and Bert Van Brande.
