Army and our semi-regular run up to Trancas Country Market for bacon, bacon and more bacon.
Our typically diverse group of cars assembled at Mel’s Drive In in Santa Monica for our 7 AM departure up PCH to Trancas. Cars today included four “big” Healeys, two Sprites, a 1960 Mercedes 220 convertible in turquoise, several ‘60s Corvettes, a Lotus Elan, a Jensen Interceptor, 1940s Bentley and a Toyota Cressida from the 1990s looking a bit out of place but collectible and loved, nonetheless.
We feasted on breakfast that’s charged by the pound, yacked about our cars and generally had a nice time of car camaraderie.
Several brave souls with more time on their hands took a roundabout route homeward.
First, we drove south on PCH a bit and turned on Kanan Dune Road and broke through the overcast to see beautifully clear skies (and air) and the marvelous Santa Monica mountains. We turned onto Mulholland Drive, drove through the “snake” passed the Rock Store which had been overtaken by motorcycles. More great scenery and super twisty roads to stretch the capabilities of driver and car.
One highlight for this driver was going through the little village of Cornell. Some interesting eating places loaded with customers already! I’m coming back here in the future and will stop and eat.
We finally hit Old Topanga Road and headed west. You could feel the air getting cooler and more humid as we neared the ocean. Merging onto the “real Topanga Canyon Road” we continued west through the groovy hamlet of Topanga and then down to the coast.
What a great way to spend a Sunday morning with our car friends and of course our cars!
