SuperCar Sunday 2/01

The special marque for this Sunday’s event at Pierce College was Classic Chevy’s. As I pulled into the lot at the college a few minutes after 7:00 I could see that the Chevy Clubs had shown up in force, In addition to the Tri-5 Club turnout, the Corvette Club also had a substantial group of cars which included Healey Club member Fred Cohen. Fred drove his ‘Vette instead of his beautiful, modified 100M.

Locating Phil Caliva’s and Monica Lago-Katis's cars I parked next to Monica’s Bugeye. I dismounted and greeted Phil, Monica, and Clay while I questioned the absence of Clay’s 3000 before I noticed the walking boot on Clay’s left foot. His inability to drive the result of a “you’ll never believe how i broke it” accident.

As the story was being told, Jack Gies rolled in and parked with the group.

After coffee and a chorizo and egg burrito, it was time to check out the Chevy corral plus wander through the parking lot looking for a standout vehicle to admire. After some car viewing, discussions  with spectators interested in knowing more about the Austin- Healey, and general chit-chat among ourselves, Phil decided to  head to Torrance and his shop. Monica and Clay had car things to do – like get ready for San Juan Capistrano’s Rotary Club Car Show.

And I was just ready to call it a morning. We all left Jack to continue talking Healey to any passerby who happened to stop at his car.
