Shops at San Clemente & Ortega Hwy Run 7/8

There was a very small turn-out for this month’s event due to the projected weather of over 100 degrees at Hell’s Kitchen.  Seven brave souls came out to first, christen the new cars and coffee in San Clemente and then to take the 22-mile trip up Ortega Highway.

It appears the new cars and coffee was a complete success.  There were so many cars they filled up the area by 8 am and a nearby parking area was full of the cars of spectators who came to see the wide variety of the cars on display.

Making the trip down from the South Bay were Phil Caliva in his ’65 BJ8, Duke Hingley in his Bugeye, my son Brian in our ‘79 Midget and me in my BJ7.  We were joined at the cars and coffee by Terry Morgan and Chuck Lakowski in their ‘74 Jensen Healey’s.  Rodger Oetken met us at Hell’s Kitchen in his BJ9.  Luckily none of the cars overheated on the way up but Duke’s and Brian’s were very close.  Since some of us had already had breakfast at the San Clemente show we just grabbed a seat at a table under the misters on the back patio and had a cold (Non- alcoholic) beverage before the hot drive back down to the coast.  Hopefully next year the weather will co-operate and we can have a larger group for a great drive up Ortega Highway to Hell’s Kitchen and back.  The San Clemente cars and coffee looks like a keeper for now.
