Just another day in paradise: I met Chuck around 0635 at the southbound 405, on the shoulder just before the south- bound 710 transition. Yes, I had run out of gas because I miscalculated my mileage by three miles before getting gas at the Chevron station at our usual meeting spot, on the s/b 405 and Bellflower Blvd.. I started out being early and ended up a few minutes behind, you just can't get a fast pit crew anymore! Chuck was fantastic getting gas to me and then making it to the show at Salt Creek to spend bonding time with a great group of Healey members.
We chatted and told big stories, checked out the cars and some of the other attendees, who drove some Porsches, an Alfa Romeo, and an interesting Fiat 850 conversion to a resort type car.
Our group of Healey aficionados: 1-Chuck L./ Jensen Healey, 2-Phil C./65 BJ8, 3- John Hummer /58 BN4 Johns wife Alice Johnson our great photographer, 4- Steve Heck / BT7, Nancy-------/ black Bug Eye , 5- Joe Cristerna (new guy) soon to be a member?/Healey ?, 6- Bruce Treunahauf ? / Blue Bug Eye, 7- Steve Shriver (my friend and Nancy's with the Bug Eye) ) / Green MGB. 8- Steve Mcintosh/ 60 Healey, 9- Bob Clark /BJ8, 10- Dave Brown (Dr. of Neurosurgeon) with his daughter Kate / 60's XKE, she will be driving soon in her own Bug Eye and will be a new member!.
We had a nice time and Chuck and I , headed for our next really big Car show/ Cruising for the Prostate Cure ,on it's 24Th annual event (I have attended everyone of them and that is how I found out that I had Prostate Cancer), they offer a PSA or and Rectal exam with Doctors and Nurses on premises and then they mail you the results at about three week /Lab. period, depending on the test results then you can see a Urologist and make sure a treatment can started for you! and the lovely Debbie Baker (who lost her husband to the disease) runs this efficient show every year.
There is about 3500 autos entered at this show for a period of ten hours , just fantastic! I was re tested again and convinced Chuck into getting tested, so it was a plus day and a wonderful showing of high quality vehicles and cruising the Fair Grounds with your car.
We left the Fairgrounds around Noon and Chuck head home only to be called as he arrived home , by a fellow Jensen friend who lives in Costa Mesa in need of car repair help and Old Chuck heads out to Costa Mesa again to be a pit crew again! I drove to the Elks Club Car show in Westchester and found the show almost ready to end , but I had a great time with some of my buds that were entered and won awards.
Not a bad day!! Cheers and Ciao
