We are probably at the greatest time of the year for getting our cars on the road for some spirited drives and get togethers with our Healey friends and family. The hills and wildflowers are amazing this year.
Some very sad news- We lost a long-time member, a true Healey guy and amazing person this last month. It’s with great sorrow that I announce Ed Neumeyer has passed away. He had a very brief illness that led to his passing. His wife Abbe is keeping up a brave front, but as we know she has a very heavy heart. Please keep your thoughts and prayers going for Ed and Abbe. I am positive they will help. The Celebration of Life for Ed is planned for July 8th. Will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Recent big gatherings- We had a great turnout for the Seal Beach car show on Saturday April 29th. We had 36 total cars show up including 18 of our members as well as our friends who brought some amazing cars to the event. As usual, lots of great stories and catching up took place.
Our group ended up walking away with 4 trophies at the show. As always, the Healeys were great crowd pleasers with lots of interest, questions, and stories about someone’s experience in them. The Conclave 2023 was also held May 21st – 26th in Crystal River, Florida. By all accounts it was a great gathering.
Future events/ get togethers- Our members’ cars have made it to Norway for EHM 2023. The plan is to pick up our cars on June 9th and begin our next big adventure and continue through the fxirst week of July. I am sure you will hear many stories about the trip. Once again, I would like to thank Steve Kirby for another AMAZING job planning and coordinating our adventure.
CHW 2023- The Golden Gate AHC continues preparation for California Healey Week (CHW) in Lake Tahoe. The cutoff for the discounted rate occurred on May 18th but there is still space available. We currently have 20 of our members signed up for the event. It promises to be a great adventure. As a reminder, CHW 2023 is planned for September Sept 18th through Sept 22nd.
CHW 2024- The planning/ coordination for CHW 2024 continues. We have over 15 RFPs out and responses back from many. Lot of data to sort through. Lots of things are very different since the pandemic..... The plan continues to be that we will make our selection this summer and announce it at CHW 2023 in Tahoe. As mentioned before, if you have any recommendations, please send me a note.
New members- Please join me in welcoming two new members to our club: Doug Kott (of Laguna Hills) who is doing updates to his 1964 AN8 MkIII Sprite. Doug has mentioned that he is willing to help others with their projects if anyone needs some help or knowhow. Bruce Borella (of Chatsworth) has also joined our family of enthusiasts. Bruce has a 1966 BJ8 Mk3. Welcome new members.
Tech articles- As mentioned last month, I have had a few more inquiries on our archived tech articles which are appreciated for the depth of knowledge and the sharing. If you’re doing an update on your cars, please consider sharing with the rest of the club members a short article on lessons learned. There is a diminishing pool of knowledge out there, as the old experts are retiring, so any help is very much appreciated.
Electrical & mechanical parts- I have noticed a lot of angst and ire from our Healey community as well as the Jensen, MG and Triumph communities with regards to the electrical components, and also the rubber coming out of China. I have myself had new light switches, blinker stocks, emergency and fan switches all fail recently as they were being installed or shortly thereafter. If anyone has a link to good quality replacements, please get the info out to our members. It is quite maddening! I hope to see you at our Cars and Coffee get togethers and other gatherings/drives after Norway. Stay well.
