I hope you all had a great holiday surrounded by friends, family and loved ones. We have put a stressful year behind us but big, new adventures lie ahead. I hope you had a chance to get together for one of the drives on New Year’s Day this year and/ or one of the Cars & Coffee (C&C) events.
I had a chance to do a couple of C&C events this last week and am reminded what a great group of folks we have as our friends and fellow Healey enthusiasts. You never know who you will run into and meet friends of those friends. There are so many stories, experiences, and amazing depth of knowledge to be shared. We are truly lucky as a club and group of friends to be so engaged.
Holiday party- For those who were unable to attend, we had a great holiday party with 68 folks in attendance. Lots of stories and catching-up accomplished. We collected many, many nice toys and batteries for Toys for Tots as well as $350 cash for more toys/ batteries. As always, the Spirit Award was a tough competition, but this year’s winner was Chuck Lakowski. Please join me in congratulating Chuck.
New Members- Please join me in welcoming two new members who joined in December- Bernard Murphy from Anaheim and Michael Walker from Whitter. Welcome to our Healey family! On a serious note- Mike Scroggie is back on the road to recovery. His surgery was more involved than anticipated, (I suspect due to his HUGE heart). He is back home and spending time with his family for the holidays. Now that said, while he was in the ICU incapacitated and in pretty tough shape, he had some spare time on his hands, so Phil Caliva and Steve Heck helped him stay focused. They performed this magic by making him aware of a particular Healey that recently became available. Mike had considered picking it up in the past but missed the opportunity. So, our intrepid caregivers helped him stay focused leading to Mike and Kathy’s acquisition of one of the most iconic Healeys out there. Mike and Kathy are now the proud owners of the 1955 BN-1 Nasty Boy built by Ken Deringer. It is a stunning black-on-black ground up restoration that took Ken over 12 years to complete. Suspect I know who will be walking away with the lion’s share of the awards in the future....
Please join me in congratulating Mike and Kathy.
Upcoming events/ get-togethers- Peter Roses has made arrangements for a tour at the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar on April 15th. The Nethercutt Museum has over 250 beautifully restored American and European cars as well as an amazing collection of mechanical musical instruments. I hope you can join us for the tour. Also upcoming is the European tour/ International Healey Meet in early June that runs through July 4th. The tour includes driving through Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Steve is our coordinator. He has had a couple of cancellations, so there are spots available if you’re interested. Steve puts together amazing tours that are an adventure of a lifetime. We also have California Healey Week (CHW) planned for September as well. Will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
Dues renewal- We are making good progress on the club renewals both local and as part of the national club. If you have not renewed, please do. They have made it pretty easy through our Club Express websites.
Happy New Year and hope you can join us for lots of new adventures.
