San Juan Capistrano Car Show 7/10

Greg Aden wrote and asked my husband, John Hummer, (BN4 100-6 Primrose Yellow) if he would help ‘herd the cats’, getting people from Point A (a pre-determined spot which needed to be determined) to Point B (the new, turned-out-to-be fabulous location of the 2021 SJC Car Show), since he was unable to make it to the Show this year.

There was so much laughter and kibitzing inside the Carl’s Jr, our congregating spot, at Ortega and The Five, we probably could have just stayed there for the day! At the prescribed time we started our engines and began pulling out of the parking lot, in single file, as if we were heading to board the team bus for our favorite athletic event.

The new show venue, the golf course at San Juan Hills Golf Club, was a  perfect spot, for the three-hundred-or- so cars, with its flat-flat surface and  short, short grass. Our group was split into two half-lines for parking instead of one long one which, looked like not such a great turn-of-events for us, actually turned out to be perfect for socializing! Once everybody crawled out of their small cockpits, the ‘cats’ were easily ‘herded’ for a group shot that I asked one of the parking girls to snap for us. It’s so nice to be part of a group that welcomes new faces and familiar ones that don’t necessarily have Healeys at home in their garages.

Bruce Hand, ‘Phil’s friend,’ as I call him, with the Lotus 7 and Bruce Treuhaft, a soon-to-be AHASC member, with his Iris Blue Bugeye Sprite were part of our ‘group’ the whole show. Van Schultz, the  ‘I’m not Peter Roses’ member with his own ‘Florida Green over British Ivory’ 100M and the Big-Bear- father-son duo, Chris Rafferty, with his oodles-of-personality young son Quentin, in their red MGA.
