Legacy Tustin Cars & Coffee - 3/14

The March edition of Legacy Cars & Coffee in Tustin was an “Autobahn” theme, thus a lot of German cars showed up en masse and filled the parking lot. If you arrived late this time, you had to park in the “North Forty”. As you would expect, a lot of Porsches, Mercedes and BMWs attended. This continues to be a well-managed show that attracts may interesting “classic” cars.

Not to be in poor fashion, I drove my 1962 Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Joining me was my granddaughter, Alana Holcher. This was her third car show...the first was at Golden Cove in 2010 with her mother Allison, see photo. She has grown up! Alana and I were joined by friends driving a 1966 VW 21-window microbus. It was a popular car at the show.

Not many British cars attended this month. Attending from the club was Tim McNiff in his 3000, Phil Caliva in his BJ8, John Hummer and Alice Johnson in her 100-6, and Dex Kaytis in his Bugeye. Evidently the “Mess" canteen has changed hands and was closed this month, so coffee and munchies were limited.

In addition to a Mercedes Gullwing SL, my favorite car at the event was a beautiful BMW Z8. Perhaps the most bizarre car in attendance was a “Rat Rod” BMW with a huge engine and strange configuration. I couldn’t even identify what model BMW it was!
