Balboa Fun Zone 1/10

Earlier this week I spoke with Mike Scroggie, Dexter Kaytis, Chuck Lakowski, Sandy Bettelman and Bruce Hand, and we decided that because there were two car shows on Sunday, the 10th, around same time frame, some of us would meet at the Balboa Peninsula Fun Zone show First; and some would go directly to the Legacy car show in Tustin.

I departed my home in Hermosa Beach at 0600, drove South on the 405 Freeway to the Seal Beach turnoff to head south on PCH to the Balboa Peninsula. The early morning drive was a bit on the cold side but the beauty of a clear, crisp day in an open cockpit Healey was more than awesome. The sun was starting to show and the glow on the water around Huntington Beach was spectacular.

After parking at the Balboa show I noticed Chuck Lakowski and his friend were parked in place with their Jensen Healey's, having their coffee and some breakfast goodies. I greeted them and headed straight for the Balboa Donut and Bakery shop to get my usual Ham/Egg/Cheese/Avocado Croissant with Jalapenos and Coffee. While Finishing my treats Tim McNiff and Dexter Kaytis showed up. They were followed by Tom Rubinate and Paige in their Pontiac Trans Am. Finally joining the group were Greg Aden and Steve Magoflin in their 3000’s. The gathering was small but some nice cars and folks showed up. We all chatted for a while and at 0750 it was time for our guys to head north to the Tustin Show. Four cars and drivers boarded the Balboa Ferry for a trip across the Bay, through Balboa Island and onto Jamboree Rd. The rest of us went around to PCH and then on Jamboree north to Barranca Pkwy, then turned west to the Legacy complex.

After the Tustin Show I led a group back north on PCH. We had a great drive and were able to drive over the new Terminal Island bridge then over the Vincent Thomas Bridge to San Pedro and the Harbor Freeway where the group scattered to head home. Another great Austin Healey Day in Paradise.
