The Super Car Sunday community annually supports one of the largest toy drives in the Los Angeles area. The lockdown and prohibitions on large group gatherings forced the founder and the sponsors of the event to switch to a drive-thru toy drop-off event this year at the Porsche Woodland Hills dealership.
So, Phil Caliva, Dex Kaytis, and I showed up at 6:45am at Phil’s car buddy, Sandy Bettelman’s home in Bel Air to load up Phil’s ‘35 Dodge pickup and our cars with toys for the drive. We departed from Sandy’s a little after seven am and headed for Woodland Hills via the north 405 and then west on the 101. When we arrived at the dealership we were thanked loudly by the volunteers and Dustin Troyan, the event founder, for the large number of toys and stuffed animals.
Then it was off on a Caliva multi-show Sunday drive. We continued north on the 101 to Kanan Dume Road and then headed for the beach. At PCH we turned north to Paradise Cove for the monthly car gathering at the beach parking lot.
We joined a large group of cars and car- lovers that included many of Phil’s and Sandy’s friends and a few of Phil’s relatives. We had planned to continue to the shopping centers at Cross Creek Rd and PCH in Malibu for the weekly car gathering when we heard that the LA County Sheriffs had shut it down.
With that I decided to head back to Glendale. I had a nice drive on the Coast Highway then headed inland on Malibu Canyon Rd joining the 101 again through the valley and onto the 134 in Van Nuys heading east to my 8inal destination – Glendale.
