Highway Earth Car Show - 6/24

Eight club member cars showed up at the second club event for the month of June, the 5th Annual Highway Earth Car Show held around the Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir Lake in the Santa Monica Mountains.  It turned out to be a beautiful day with the temperatures in the high 70’s and a slight wind.  The drive to the event was worth the entry fee as we drove up Mullholland Drive from the 405 to the turn o ff to the lake.  It is a unique setting where the sponsors parked the cars together by Marque in turnouts around the Lake.  Dex Kaytis pointed out that this was where Opie threw the rock in the lake during the opening sequence of the Andy Gri ffith Show.  He found the location, but it was now overgrown with weeds.

Attending from the club were Ron Fine, Dexter Kaytis, David and Lisa Thorne, new member Barry Weiss (in his original -owner 67 BJ8  ) and myself in our Healey’s.  Chuck Lakowski in his Jensen Healey, Chuck and Barbara Meng in their Bugeye and Dave Beugen in one of his Rolls.  Corkey and Lupi Holt showed up in their BJ9 to spectate as we were leaving, so we just waved to them on the way out.  The only challenge of the day was getting down Franklin Canyon Road, which goes to one lane through the residential area, without over heating or burning up your clutch.

Hopefully more club members will join us next year since there isn’t a European trip.
