As you know from Tim McNiff’s column last month, we are coming up on club elections soon, and the new officers will begin their term on July 1st. Therefore, we are currently accepting nominations for club officers, including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Historian. Our bylaws call for the Newsletter Editor to organize and run the elections, and Tim will soon be distributing nomination forms and thereafter, the election forms.
I would like to emphasize how important it is for the club membership to actively participate in this process. Consider who you think would best lead the club in the coming year and beyond.
Hopefully, many of our existing officers will run for another term. I however, will not, as I stated last July when I agreed to stay on as President for an additional year.
The future of the club is dependent on consistent leadership. I strongly urge that all members take this responsibility seriously and vote for your choice of new officers. There are no required prerequisites for the club offices, other than an ability and willingness to serve.
However, for the position of President, the candidate should (in my opinion) be someone who has been active in the club and served in some capacity before. Perhaps it’s time for some newer members and women (as suggested at the Holiday Party in December) to serve as officers.
So, I ask all members to become active in selecting your new officers. The future of the club could depend on YOU. Talk with your fellow members at the regular event gatherings and be sure to vote! Happy Healeying, Mike
