On January 1st Austin- Healey Association members Ed Neumeyer, Chuck Lakowski and his wife Dawn, Steve Kirby, Tom Spangler, Tony Trentacost and myself attended the Annual New Year’s Day Tour d Orange.
Ed, Tony and I brought our Big Healey’s, Chuck his Jensen Healey, Steve his Jaguar and Tom his BJ9 MBZ. The day started out as a brisk, clear 49-degree morning as I left Hermosa Beach. When I got to the Orange County line on the 405 Fwy I ran into heavy fog (who says there’s not an Orange Curtain) all the way to the starting point in Aliso Viejo.
Upon reaching the starting point which, by the way, was not announced until 4:00 PM on the 31st to keep the numbers of cars down; and it may have worked as it appeared that there were fewer cars at the start. The fog lifted before we departed, and the drive was uneventful as we reached the end-point in Irvine at around 10:30. We then enjoyed an early lunch at Red Robin. The only incident that morning was Ed reporting that he was stopped for speeding on the way from Palm Desert, but the Officer was in a good mood and let him go.
