Aliso Viejo - 12/17

I attended the Aliso Viejo Cars & Coffee on December 17th. In addition to the outstanding display of cars, this was a special event with the gift collection for Toys for Tots, which will be held annually. The US Marine Corps was there in force collecting the toys for eventual delivery to Camp Pendleton for distribution to needy kids. In addition to the USMC decorated Woody, the Marines showed up in a very large troop carrier called the “Beast”.

The 200-300 cars attending were the usual classics, Hot Rods and exotics, including a good showing by the Mustang , Corvette and Porsche clubs. It’s disappointing that so few British Sportscars were there...a few Triumphs and MGs but only one Healey, mine. Our club needs to better support this event, by far the largest weekly car gathering in Orange County.

The coordinator of the USMC toy drive is a classic car enthusiast, Mickey Christiason.

He also will take delivery of the toy collection from our Holiday/Christmas party on the 18th. Mickey was very appreciative of our efforts and wanted to pass on the following message: “Please convey my appreciation to your Austin Healy Club for their generous donation of toys. I will deliver them tomorrow to the base for their Unit Xmas Party! Thanks again from the Marine Corps League” – Mickey Christiason, Sgt. at Arms Let’s get out and support the Aliso Viejo event in 2017--second Saturday of the month.
