Laguna Beach Classic Car Show

The first Club event in October was the Annual Laguna Beach Rotary Classic Car Show. This year we were back in the parking lot, as the fairgrounds were again undergoing some renovation. At least the organizer’s give us the back corner of the parking lot so we can set up our tent.

Even though we had our own class, Healey attendance this year wasn’t as strong in years past. We had five 3000’s, ALL RED, and one newly minted Jensen Healey in blue. We lacked only a white car to make a great flag. The day was very pleasant with alternating patches of sun and overcast, not bad since we didn’t have the permanent shade we usually do inside the festival grounds.

Our small group: Jay Miller, Andy Nelson, Tony Trentacost, Rich Shoemaker, Phil Caliva, Gary Barmore and your writer; spent most of the day with a few cast off Jaguar Club members and a chap with a really nice Karmann Ghia. Amazing how old car guys can entertain themselves for hours simply by repeating stories we’ve all told a hundred times before! I guess that’s the upside to failing memory.

In any case, at the end of the day, Jay Miller’s ’67 BJ8 won “Outstanding in Class” and yours truly took “Best in Class” with the aforementioned Jensen Healey.

(Note: The red Dodge rat rod truck in the background is Phil Caliva’s “other Healey”. He decided to drive it when his Healey Nasty Boy failed to start. You wouldn’t believe the amount of attention it got, especially from the younger crowd).
