Channel Islands British Car Show 9/21

The attendance at the Central Coast British Car Club show at Channel Islands Harbor was going to be good. A sizable crowd from the South Bay was coming up Pacific Coast Highway, with a stop at Trancas Canyon Vintage Market for breakfast, while others from the Valley were making their way to Oxnard individually, like Russ Thompson and Joyce Maeda and Louie and Bonnie Fisher. Peter and Alexandra Roses were meeting George Merino and Tim McNiff in Glendale before caravanning to Oxnard and breakfast at the “Best Breakfast Diner”.

The car show was being held at the West Channel Park as in past years and our display area was at the south end of the park as usual.

There were 14 “big” Healeys, three Bugeyes, and two Midgets on hand. Club members were driving 12 of the 14 big Healeys, and two of the bugeyes. Plus, member Nancy Asahina was keeping Steve Schryver and his MGB company in the MG corral.

The weather, always a topic of conversation in Oxnard, was iffy early, with a heavy marine layer that left a lot of water on the windshields.

It improved as the morning progressed and became very pleasant. Besides people- watching and talking about our cars, activities included the Peoples Choice judging, visiting the farmers market, and enjoying the music of the Pipe and Drum band.

When it was time for the awards to be given out, club members were honored. In the 100/3000 class Steve and Jan Beck took Second with their 100-4 and in the Sprite Class Gerry and Chris Lockwood took First Place, which is becoming a habit with them.

Before departing the show, various return routes were discussed, and it was decided to drive back along streets and canyon roads new to us.

The trip was uneventful, the scenery was spectacular, and George and I were back in Glendale in no time, as the Jishers and Roses split of at the 118 and I5 interchange.
