Met Phil Caliva at the Chevron Station on the corner of San Dimas Ave and Bonita Ave. George McHarris was supposed to be there too, but a bad clutch left him at home.
Phil and I proceeded into the show and were placed at the end of a row of cars on 1st St in the shade of some stately park trees.
First thing we did was head down Bonita Ave to Roady’s Restaurant for Breakfast. Fried eggs, corned beef hash, country potatoes and a side of biscuit and sausage gravy, washed down with endless coffee, iced tea in Phil’s case, set us up for the rest of the day.
Back at the show, we checked in at the registration table, collected our T-shirts and window cards and settled in for a pleasant day. We checked out all the vehicles on display, even discovered a blue over white 100-6 which belonged to and Upland resident by the name of Chris Salce. Phil provided a membership form and hopefully he’ll soon be a member. Our tour of the show also introduced us to a couple of the horses from the Sheriff’s posse. I got some pictures of Teddy, who seemed very blasé about the whole show.
About 1:00pm Phil decided it was time to leave, afraid of the heat that was continuing to build for his long drive back to his shop. I stuck around until about 2:00, when I decided the drive back to Glendale on the 210/134 Fwy on a Sunday afternoon might be a slog.
This is a great show, very much American iron, but lots of friendly people, and an appreciative audience for our Little British Cars.
