Supercar Sunday 7/7

The marques being celebrated this First Sunday of July were the European Classics. I arrived at Pierce College shortly after 7am to Find Phil Caliva in his black BJ8 and Chuck Lakowski in Phil’s yellow Alfa Romeo waiting patiently for me. The surprise was Bob Bolling and his son Nick had joined them for their jaunt up from Long Beach.

Shortly after, our group of Healeys was joined by Fred Cohen in his 100M “Nasty Boy”, and Jack Gies in his classy black BJ8. They were followed by Clay Kaytis driving his dad Dex’s ‘60 BT7, and Monica Lago-Kaytis, Dex’s daughter-in- law, driving her ‘beemer’ Mini Cooper.

Lots of talk about Clay getting familiar driving the big Healey and Monica’s desire to acquire a Bugeye Sprite. As  soon as there was a lull in the conversation, Phil was announcing time to depart for Trancas Canyon and the Bacon run at the Country Mart. So, Phil, Bob, Chuck, Clay and Monica Fired up the engines and disappeared in clouds of blue smoke.

No sooner than they left, Amanda Cole and Art Perez pulled in in Amanda’s Bugeye Sprite, which has been upgraded by Art into a freeway runner, including heated seats for those cold, early-morning trips to a show. Amanda and Art were anxious to show off their Beverly Hills wedding pictures which included the Sprite in every one.

The food truck was missing, and my stomach was growling so off to home I went reflecting.
