From the President

Hello all you Healeyphiles, Another month’s Blown by! I guess the big news of the month is that most of us (over 65) are now on the “list” to receive the vaccine....well, sort of. As of this writing Orange County still hasn’t Figured out how to inject even a fraction of the doses they have on hand, despite having, what, a year to plan for this? LA County seems to be doing somewhat better and I understand that their two independent medical districts (Pasadena and Long Beach) are doing very well. Maybe there is a message here....the smaller and more locally managed the task, the better it gets done. Even so, it seems sad that now that we have an effective vaccine, we don’t have an effective means to utilize it.

Maybe next month I will have a brighter outlook! Meanwhile, some car stuff is happening. Our Club is lucky that we can rely heavily on the weekly Cars and Coffee type meet ups to enjoy our cars. Large scale events are still tough, but as you will read in these pages, our Club members are on the road. I have attended a few of these events, including the redirected Tour D’Orange on New Year’s Day and I will say, I felt quite safe. People were universally wearing masks and keeping a respectful distance, even our own small group of Healey guys. So, if you are starting to feel a little more confident, and particularly if you  have been lucky enough to get your shots, get out there and enjoy your Healey! If it’s been sitting, it needs some love.

Finally, my monthly column wouldn’t be complete without a Conclave Update. We have had a few more registrations (and a couple of cancellations) and now stand at 181 registrants and 350 guests! Last week we got Final approval from the Big Bear Planning Commission to hold the Car Show on Pine Knot Avenue and Village Drive (Big Bear’s Main Streets).

Both roads will be closed to all traffic, so we are really excited about that.

Also, Mike Scroggie is doing a great job or recruiting and “developing” our sponsors and we are going to have some nice Welcome Gifts, Silent Auction Items, and some “fun and games” we haven’t tried before.

We’ve got room for about 20 more registrations (40 people), so if you haven’t signed up yet, please do so soon.

Finally, don’t forget the Regalia Store (www.conclave2021-regalia.com). We will not have any sized items for sale at Conclave, you must order in advance. And even if you are not attending, you are welcome to order.

Hope to see you on the road!
