The Scottish Games 5/25 & 26

The 25th started cool and a little overcast, with a small chance of rain, as the day went on the sun came out but it was windy. I arrived about 7:30 am and got a prime spot in the center of the display of cars. Chuck Lakowski arrived about an hour later with his Jensen Healey.

A total of twenty cars were there on Saturday, not as well attended as in past years but still a good mix of cars. The makes represented were six MG's, six Triumph's, two Morris Traveller's, one Sunbeam Alpine, an Austin Cooper race car, one Bentley, one Austin Gypsy 4x4, an Austin Healey Sprite and a Jensen Healey and two modern (BMW) Mini's. We had a steady flow of people coming by looking at the cars all day including Jeannie Derringer, who said Hi to everyone. All cars and drivers did a parade lap on the speedway track at the end of the day.

Chuck and I got several chances to wander around and listen to the Bagpipe Bands, try the Scottish foods, check out the Scottish Regalia booths, watch the sporting events, and the sheep herding demonstration using dogs. Chuck and I felt that the sheep herding demonstration was the best. We understand the day was a sellout.

Rain was predicted for the 26th so the turnout of cars was very light. I again arrived about 7:30 am and Tim McNiff about 8:00. It was cold and we had 2 squalls come through at the end of the day. The crowd was smaller due to the weather, but we still got a fair amount of people looking at the cars. We had two Bentley's, a Sprite and an Austin Healey 3000, one Aston Martin, a Morris Mini, an Austin Cooper race car, and a Modern Mini.

Tim and I wandered around, watched the demonstrations, had some Scottish dishes, and talked to people about the cars. The parade lap was cancelled due to the wet track, it's a dirt track used for Speedway Bike racing and we didn't want to be responsible for damaging the track.

Hope to see more Healey's out at this event next year, it's lots of fun, great food, great bands, and they even offer Scots Whiskey tasting.
