From the Vice President

Published on 10/1/2018

It appears that the month of October is going to be very busy for club members.  We have several large events on tap as well as Healey Week coming up on us.

Jay Miller has indicated that there will be a local paper reporter at the Belmont Shores gathering on the 3rd, then there is the Laguna Beach Classic Car Show on the 7th, then the San Diego British Car Show on the 13th before we all head up to Solvang.  Phew! It's going to be a busy two weeks for some of us.

In another article I detailed the Healey results during the August Auctions.  As you will see, primarily the high-end, restored examples sold but the category 2 and 3 cars (like most of ours) did not.  What does that tell us about the state of the Healey’s? One theory is that a lot of owners are seeing the category 1 cars get big $$ and now think that their vehicles are worth more and have too high expectations.  Or that as we all age there are more cars coming available and the market is not there for them as the younger generation does not relate to them.  Unfortunately, I believe both are true to some degree.  I have talked to several attendees in their 50's at car shows and auctions who are now in the position to purchase one; there is hope for us all.

We are going to have a table set up near registration at Solvang for Sprite memorabilia: photo’s etc.  to celebrate the 60th Birthday of the Sprite and if anyone has anything they want to add to the display please contact me and bring it along with you.  We would like the table to be jam packed with items l am looking forward to seeing everyone at Healey Week.  Have a safe and fun drive up there!
